  • Description: The article presents the results of analysis of gender-bias in textbooks in India. The analysis aimed at examining the content of the English language textbooks circulated in India with respect to genderbiased or sexist use of language and to determine if the problem exists. Four textbooks of English were analysed with respect to gender-biased use of language taking into account topics presented in the units of each textbook, the choice of the material to describe the topic with respect to gender of the main character of the main text of a unit, gender-marked pronouns in the texts and exercises, visual materials used to illustrate the texts, i.e. pictures and illustrations with respect to gender.
