  • Description: Research plays a critical role in the transformation process. Although there are many elements that transform nursing care, research is directly linked to improving patient outcomes. Senior nurse leaders are in key positions to create an environment for a successful nursing research program. Alignment of the senior nurse leader's vision about the future of nursing with a nurse researcher's vision of a research program helps an organization realize important transformative goals and objectives. In a healthcare system, a triad of leaders must work together to establish the foundational elements of the organization's research program. The senior nurse leader serves a critical role as a key decision maker. Nurse managers are key drivers of organizational performance, playing a key role in aligning strategic goals and nursing practice. They can engage frontline clinicians in research, encouraging them to deliver the highest level of care possible. 11 references
