  • Description: A therapeutic composition comprises the N-benzyl-b -phenylethylamine salt of penicillin G and a pharmaceutical carrier suitable for administration to the human or animal body. The composition may take the form of an ointment, powder, spray, tablet, capsule, cachet toothpaste, dental cone, chewing gum, suppository, dry mix which may be converted to aqueous suspension for oral administration, or an oil or aqueous intra-muscularly injectable suspension, and may contain an additional water soluble penicillin salt e.g. sodium benzyl penicillin, other antibiotics e.g. streptomycin, oxytetracycline, bacitracin, polymyxin, dihydrostreptomycin, aureomycin, sulpha drugs e.g. sulphanilamides, sulphathiazole, sulphones, or other injectable drugs. The injectable aqueous compositions may contain suitable dispersing agents e.g. "Tweens" (Registered Trade Mark), polyethylene glycol mono-oleate, mono or di-stearate, buffering agents e.g. sodium citrate, suspending agents e.g. gums, pectins, alginates, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, and stabilizers e.g. hexamine. Suitable oil media are arachis, sesame, olive and almond oils, beeswax and organic esters e.g. ethyl oleate, dibutyl succinate, and metallic soaps e.g. aluminium calcium, magnesium or lithium stearate. Other substances which may be present are carbowax, ceresin, ozokerite, cosmogel, sucrose, lactose, glucose, gelatine, starch, cetrimide, sodium bicarbonate, tartaric and citric acids, saccharine, hydrogenated palm kernel oil, white soft and liquid paraffin, butyl parahydroxybenzoate.
